McDonald Elementary school students performed a musical, The Life We Share, to raise awareness on the power of trees and build community.

We are so inspired by these students, and hope you take the time to listen to the performance of one of the musical’s songs, Lot Sprawl, performed at City Hall during a hearing for the comprehensive plan (minute 06:00)! Their performance was featured in Seattle Public Schools’ newsletter.

Lot sprawl
Houses are spread out
Lot sprawl
No room for trees

Let’s all
Use the solutions
Shared walls
Is one of these

Stacked flats
…Is the other
Build the homes
Above one another

Out your window, a shady scene
Go outside, you’re under the trees
Where you can breathe
And everything’s green

Big trees, just let them grow,
Big trees, we need them so……

Lot sprawl….
Has got to go
Lot sprawl….
Has got to go
Lot sprawl….
Has got to go

 You breathe out…carbon dioxide
And that’s the thing that we take in
We give off…what you breathe in
What’s it called? . . . . . . .Oxygen!

We know you humans make extra carbon
Dioxide and it warms the air
But we can help you, if you let us
So let us live this life we share
