Jose is a 3-foot diameter fir at 827 NE 98th St that pre-dates its neighborhood.
But that isn’t stopping Legacy Group Capital from going after this majestic tree. Yes, this is yet another Legacy tree cutting.
A year and a half after Legacy tried to illegally cut down the other firs on this same lot over a holiday weekend when no one was looking, Jose, the largest tree on the lot, is getting cut down for a storage shed and a parking space.
An independent architect has confirmed that the same number and size of homes can be built without removing Jose, but SDCI approved the version of the plan giving Legacy maximum profits instead.
We can’t let Legacy continue to weaponize the “Housing vs Trees” fallacy in order to line their own pockets while raiding our communities of our climate-positive green infrastructure.
We’ll be gathering to share our gratitude for Jose the Fir and show Legacy and their allies within SDCI that we do not support the wholesale deforestation of our city in exchange for tree-destroying lot sprawl and a few more bucks for Legacy CEO Scott Rerucha.
This weekend, it’s once again Legacy vs the future. Join us to defend the right side of history.
