“Henry” was a Port Orford cedar, a species native to southern Oregon and prized for their resilience to drought and pollution. As the only large tree on an oversized lot under development, neighbors hoped the new housing could be built around the tree. Early in the process, Tree Action Seattle provided the developer with drawings by a prominent local architect, which showed the tree could be retained by rotating one DADU 90 degrees. This plan would have required the developer to give up one of the ten off-street parking places planned for just six homes. The developer refused to consider this option and Henry was removed on 4-9-24.
